Competitive Edge: LP Cedar Decking

Ideal Decking Surface
The Behind the Walls House will use Evans Plus cedar decking, which is available in six sizes: 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, 5/4x4 and 5/4x6. This tightly knotted decking has a smooth, skip-free facing that makes it an ideal decking surface. The durable Evans Plus line is categorized as an “Architectural Knotty” wood, as defined by the Western Red Cedar Lumber Association.

The LP cedar products line includes two other ready-to-install styles:

EvansPlus4, which also falls into the Architectural Knotty category, is virtually wane-free on all four edges. That makes it especially suitable for handrails and similar deck constructions.

Eagle Deck sits at the top end of the WRCLA Custom Knotty segment. This durable material is most appropriate for residential and commercial applications where a more economical material is needed.

“We’re strong believers in the importance of industry-based promotion of the unique qualities of western red cedar, as well as the development of stringent product-quality standards,” says Strakes, referring to the WRCLA system. “These activities have helped spur consumer awareness of and demand for red cedar That benefits not just LP, but also our distributor and builder partners.”

LP also adheres to the high standards of the American Forest & Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative. The company owns or manages approximately 22 million acres of forests throughout North America, all certified by third-party auditors against the strict principles of SFI.
